Will This Vacation Ever End?

LA is depressing. How can anyone live with the traffic and smog? The family is successfully annoying the hell out of each other, and I have officially begun counting down the days till we get back. I haven't been online for over a week, how did I survive 17 years without the internet? I miss you all, I miss my bed, I miss my sanity. Keep me in your thoughts, or prayers, or meditations, or whatever religious pratices you do, or do not participate in cause the next 3 days might be the end me of. Sent via text

My husband and I grew up in LA and lived there until 3 years ago when we moved to Australia. I was excited to move somewhere new but my husband was obsessed with getting out of LA. I didn't understand it because we were in our early and mid 20's so it's not like we'd had time to really get in a rut or anything. Now, I get it. Our family are starting to pressure us to come home to visit because we haven't been back yet. We do really want to see them but the thought of returning to the smog and the traffic, even for a month, after three years in tropical paradise is something we dread. The funny thing is, everyone who lives here is horrified we would leave LA for this sleepy town.

Just stumbled on your site. It's a great read!

Hold on. I can't comment until I finish adding up all the grammatical errors in that post...

KIDDING.

We lived in California for a year & a half and had to drive into LA several times, whenever anyone came to see us or we had to fly in or out. The first time we were all star struck: LOOK! Ventura Boulevard! LOOK! Hollyood! LOOK! Rodeo Drive!

By the third trip we were all, "Don't come to see us and make us drive to LA! Why would you do this to us?? Baaaah!"

We refer to the whole state as The People's Republic of California and we feel very grateful to not live there anymore. Hubby turned down a very good job offer once that was going to return us to where we lived before. I think his exact quote was, "Been there, done that, no thank you."

I like LA but the traffic is freaking ridiculous. I used to have to commute there from where I lived about 30 miles away, and anytime between 1:30pm and 7:00pm it would take 4 hours to get home.

I'm from Boston and everyone there always complains about the "worst traffic in the world". Oh, cry me a river.

Yeah, from all I hear about LA I'm not all that desperate to go there. For all the stuff about the boring Midwest, we've got some great clean air and decent traffic, as long as you stay out of Detroit... lol. Hope you hold up, praying for you! God bless.

After living in LA for 20+ years, hearing people complain about traffic where I live now is HILARIOUS! I'm in a city of under 200,000 in Australia now. It takes about 20 minutes to get from one side of the city to the other on surface streets (the city is about 10 miles across at it's widest point). With the "terrible traffic" it might take 30-35 minutes. Every time someone complains to me about the traffic here, I laugh and tell them about LA where 10 miles can easily take 2 hours.
